Literacy/ESOL
The library is offering adult daytime classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Classes begin Wednesday, January 23rd and will be held at the library on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Students are grouped according to their level of communication as follows:
- Beginning Level: Monday & Wednesday 8:30:00 - 10:00 AM
- Intermediate Level: Monday & Wednesday 10:00 - 11:30 PM
- Please note: there is no Minimal Level being offered at this time.
These classes are open to adults from all nationalities that are interested in improving their communication skills. Students will learn effective oral expression, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary development, syntax, plus reading and writing skills. All classes are conducted in English only, and all students are expected to participate in group discussions. Classes will be held in the Committee Room on the lower level of the Athenaeum.
Jonas Barrientos, program coordinator, is a certified ESOL instructor. He will be available to meet with prospective students at the Athenaeum on Monday and Wednesday mornings to answer questions and to conduct placement interviews.
