English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
The Westfield Athenaeum is offering adult day time classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at 6 Elm Street, Westfield MA. Classes will take place two afternoons per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:30 to 2:30pm. Classes will begin with an orientation on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 2:30 pm.
These classes are taught in a Learning Lab setup, and students will work at their own level. Students must be able to read and write in their own language, and must be able to use a dictionary independently. These classes are open to adults from all nationalities that are interested in improving their communication skills. Students learn effective oral expression, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary development, syntax as well as reading and writing skills. All classes are conducted in English only, and all students must be willing to interact well with others and participate in group discussions.
There will be a nominal donation of $20.00 for every four weeks. Students will need two text booklets (distributed by the instructor) at $10.00 each. Other materials will be provided.
The instructor Jonas Barrientos has over 40 years of experience with adult education and holds a TESOL (Teachers of English for Speakers of Other Languages) Certificate from the International Language Institute.
