Dig into the Westfield Athenaeums Adult

Summer Reading program on Monday June 24th as we present Martin Henley: Scoundrels Who Made America Great.

Martin will help us unearth the secrets of Iva Toguri who was called “Tokyo Rose”, convicted of treason but she was innocent. Listen to Martin as he digs into the facts that led to her conviction and then uncover the real truths that led to her regaining her freedom.

Doors will open at 5:00 to start the Adult Summer Reading registration. The program will begin at 6:30 with a raffle prize drawn at the end of the program.

Keyboardist Dick Plasse and Singer Diane Darin

Born in Springfield, Richard Plasse has been a professional musician for over 40 years.  He received his Bachelor’s degree in Music from Westfield State College (now University). He has performed with many groups locally and on the road, such as Monty & The Specialties, Trilogy and Razin Cain. He is currently playing piano with the Phil Estabrook Big Band, the Premier Swing Jazz Band, and he accompanies singers and performs as a soloist. He will be accompanying singer Diane Darin, a jazz vocalist from Springfield, on February 2.  Diane Darin is the mother of two grown sons and is a children’s book author. She regularly performs vocals with a jazz trio and a forties swing orchestra in the Springfield area. 

Catering the FIRST THURSDAYS lunchtime concert series again this year will be Soup’s On, located at 16 Union St. in Westfield (inside the Pilgrim Candle building). Soup’s On will be offering yogurt parfaits, a variety of salads, fruit cups, a variety of homemade sandwiches (both deli and grilled panini), two kinds of homemade soups, and a variety of desserts. Hot and cold beverages will also be available. Lunch will be available starting at 11:15 a.m. and the concerts will start at noon.

This month see Jennifer Delgado's collection The 300.00 Series based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.  The series is a spontaneous creation of imagery, a collection of small of vivid abstract art.
