Westfield Athenaeum Library

Picture Westfield Oct. 1-8, 2011

Give us your best shot!

To celebrate and document Westfield, the Westfield Athenaeum is creating Picture Westfield - one week to photograph Westfield businesses, activities, groups, classes and workers. The Athenaeum is privileged to preserve pictures of early Westfield, but what will people a hundred years from now think of us? We need you to sign up and commit to photographing your institution, association, committee, club and neighborhood.

We certainly don't go to work by truck or have the same kinds of classrooms as we did in the past.

Elm & Main Streets

Our streets and parades are different, even if some of the buildings remain the same.

People are going to want to know what we did for fun, how we spent our time

What was work like? Where did we go? What did we celebrate?

How did we construct? What did we wear? Where did we go?

Help us provide future generations with images of Westfield in 2011.  We are asking everyone (young and old, business owner and child) to take photographs to document your lives in Westfield starting October 1 and going through October 8th. Submit your photos on CD or flash drive by category (Dawn, breakfast/morning, working, noon/lunch, evening, night shift, playtime, family, sports, worship/faith, school, architecture, landscape, pets, teamwork, shopping).

The release form also includes more information about the photograph (place, identified people). We need the hightest resolution jpeg on a flash drive or CD.

The Athenaeum is planning on creating a poster for next year's event and projecting the images in the Jaspar Rand Art Museum or other venues in town.

If you would like to sign up as a photographer or if you have any questions, please contact Kate Deviny at 562-0716 or by email kdeviny[at]westath.org. All forms (release and signup) are available at the Reference Desk.
