Westfield Athenaeum Library
Corporators
As we approach our 140th year of service to the Westfield community, the Athenaeum has enjoyed a long and distinguished history. According to our by-laws, the official duty of a Corporator is to attend the Annual Meeting in November to hear and act on the reports of officers and committees. While Corporators meet as a body on an annual basis, they serve an important role throughout the year and throughout their tenure on the Corporation. Corporators give back to the community by helping to support the Athenaeum's mission "to enrich the diverse community of Westfield by providing open access to educational, cultural, recreational and informational resources and programs."
Corporators include both current and former Directors of the Athenaeum. They act as "good-will ambassadors" for the Athenaeum, by introducing new people in the community to our services, by writing letters of support when we are submitting grant proposals or by supporting our annual appeal. In addition, Corporators may be called on from time to time to sit on ad-hoc committees or focus groups in helping us to develop the Athenaeum's new long-range plan. There are also numerous activities and special events throughout the year at which Corporators show their support, including the Annual Wine Tasting and the Annual Book Sale, both sponsored by the Friends.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, our staff and our volunteers, we are proud to recognize the service our Corporators provide to the Westfield Athenaeum and to the Westfield community. The work of our Corporators and Directors allows us to continue the fine tradition of service that has been our hallmark for nearly 140 years.
