Westfield Athenaeum Library
Book Fund
The Piszczek Memorial Book Fund
has been established by the family of Anne (Jegelewicz) Piszczek to recognize, honor, and continue her lifelong passion and commitment to Westfield’s children, education, and love of learning.Anne (Jegelewicz) Piszczek September 20, 1907–January 4, 1994
Anne Piszczek joined the Athenaeum board in 1944, was elected its first woman director and spent the next 48 years nurturing this institution as its longest-serving director. She was instrumental with the establishment of the Northside branch library within the Westfield High School building in 1977 because first and foremost, Anne Piszczek was a teacher. Thousands of Westfield residents passed through her classes during her 40 year career in this city's schools. She served as president of the Retired teachers Association.
Anne was also the founder of the Polish Junior League of Westfield, an officer of the Westfield Woman’s Club, a member of the MA Library Trustees Assoc. and the American Medical Assoc., due to her devotion to her husband, Dr. Edmund S. Piszczek, a former chairman of the Westfield Board of Health.
This memorial book fund will assist the Athenaeum in the purchasing of books for our patrons, allowing us to provide more new materials for children and adults. We deeply appreciate this support as well as Anne’s 48 years of service to the Westfield Athenaeum.
Contributions in memory of a loved one or in honor of someone close to you can be made to the Piszczek Memorial Book Fund. Each $50 contribution will entitle the donor to one bookplate, which will be inserted into a new book in the Athenaeum’s circulating collection. A list of book fund donors and the books purchased thanks to their support will also be posted on our website. If you are interested in making a contribution, please contact Candy Pennington at (413) 568-0638.
Our goal is to raise $25,000 by April 1, 2007.
