The Summer of 2003 is finally here! Whether you like detective stories, romances, biographies, bestsellers or classics, stop in to the Athenaeum for some great summer reads! For kids, the staff of the Boys and Girls library has put together another great summer reading series. This year's theme is Read! Think! Create! @ the Westfield Athenaeum! What kinds of things will they be creating? Stop in and see! Prizes will be given out to those participating in the summer reading program, so be a part of the fun.
The Reference Staff is pleased to announce a new service to our computer users. A new automated system has been installed that allows patrons to reserve time on one of our public use computers by entering the barcode number on their library card. The system is designed to allow patrons to reserve time even if all of the computers are currently in use.
A registration PC will reserve a PC at a specific time that can only be used by that particular patron, using his or her borrower's card number. A print management station has also been installed, allowing users to print and pay for print jobs using a coin-operated machine, without having to get change from the Reference staff. This system will allow users more privacy, will save time and will ultimately allow our staff to spend more time helping people find the information they need. Come in and try the new system out the next time you're in. Just remember to bring your library card!
Don't forget to visit the newly opened Edwin Smith Historical Museum. Summer hours are Tuesdays 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Thursdays 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. After you've seen what's on exhibit here in Westfield, check out a museum pass to any of nine other museums in Massachusetts. You've never been to Historic Deerfield or the Norman Rockwell Museum? Well, now you can get in for free with your museum pass. A complete list of passes is available on the Athenaeum's website at www.westath.org. Westfield residents may reserve passes up to two weeks in advance by calling the Reference Desk at (413) 562-0716. Borrowers will need to present a valid library card.
